OMNeT++ Research Projects

OMNeT++ Research Projects Three different networks are discussed in the OMNET++ projects section. There are,

  • Multihop cellular network.
  • Tele communication network.
  • 4G network.

Multihop cellular network:

Multihop cellular networks (MCNs) are proposed in respond to the demand for next generation cellular systems to support high data rates with efficient power consumption enlarge coverage area and provide good QoS for multimedia applications.

Advantages of MCN:

  • Increase throughput of the network.
  • Enlarging coverage area of the base station.
  • Decreasing power consumption of the mobile users.
  • Increasing network scalability.

Goal for designing MCN:

  • A trend to cut down costs while keeping or even extending the service in cellular networks
  • Idea to replace wired by wireless services
  • Desire to provide quality of service in wireless low-cost networks

Challenges on MCN:

  • Scheduling in radio resource allocation
  • Joint optimization of robust adaptive and context aware multihop routing protocols
  • Energy efficient routing in radio resource allocation
  • Intercell interference management
  • Load balancing etc

Telecommunication network:

Telecommunication networks consist of two principal components – transport network and access network. In both these network segments, various technologies of wired and wireless may be implemented and maintained.

Types of telecommunication network:

  • Public network
  • Telex network
  • PSTN
  • Radio and television network
  • ISDN
  • Paging network
  • Mobile telephone networks
  • Internet
  • Public data networks
  • Private network
  • Virtual private network
  • Professional mobile radio (PMR)

Research issues on telecommunication network:

  • Security and resiliency
  • Resource provisioning
  • Management of networks
  • Worry-free networks
  • Network stability and interoperability

4G:

  • 4G is the new and improved version of 3G. Internet speeds are five times faster, and the internet connection is stronger so your internet won’t suddenly slow down.
  • 4G networks use different frequencies to transmit data than 3G

Benefits of 4G:

  • Better spectral efficiency
  • IP based mobile system
  • Better scheduling and call admission control techniques
  • An infrastructure to handle pre existing 3g systems along with other wireless technologies, some of which are currently under development
  • High speed, high capacity and low cost per bit
